The Receipt Cold-Open

Front-load credibility in the first 15 seconds, every time

Every Hormozi video opens by stacking receipts before the content begins. Same move applies to Alex — and you already have the ammo.

The Receipt Cold-Open

The Receipt Cold-Open

Receipts before reasons. If you don't earn the floor in the first 15 seconds, every line after is opinion.

The Hormozi formula (from the 30-video scan)

28 of 30 videos (93%) of his most-recent uploads open with a receipt-style credibility front-load. Average receipt-density score: 7.3 / 10. This isn't a stylistic choice — it's the template.

Move frequency across 30 videos, ranked:

MoveCount across 30 videosWhat he literally says/shows
visual_badge34Acquisition.com logo on shirt/wall/building; conference stage with full audience visible
aggregate_revenue26"Our portfolio of companies at Acquisition.com is over $250 million in aggregate revenue"
personal_stat21"$106 million book launch in a weekend", specific event records
identity_anchor20"Acquisition.com" named explicitly within the first 10 seconds
third_party_proof16On-screen chyron citing Guinness World Records, news clippings, attendee-count overlays
years_in_game12"I've been in business for 14 years"
portfolio11"A portion of that is brick and mortar chains we own"
audience_qualifier9"If you've ever thought 'I've got a Level 10 skill set in a Level 2 business'…"
title_chyron9On-screen "FOUNDER, [Company]" lower-thirds on featured guests
clients_named1Rare — most credibility is portfolio-level, not client-level

The transferable mechanism: Stack 2-4 of these moves in the first 10-15 seconds, in ascending specificity — years in game → one jaw-dropping single-event stat → total portfolio proof. The actual teach starts at ~15-20s, AFTER the floor has been earned.

The killer move (from the highest-scoring video, 10/10): Pair the visual badge with the spoken number at the EXACT same instant — Hormozi drops "$106M book launch" while a Guinness World Records certificate is on-screen in the same frame. The eye and ear confirm each other simultaneously. Your equivalent: drop "$X in brand deals last month" with a Stripe payout screenshot or a signed brand contract in-frame.

Alex's version — what to lift, what to add

You have every piece of the Hormozi formula. They just aren't getting weaponized in your cold opens today.

The opener templates (5 ready-to-film cold opens)

Each one stacks at least 3 Hormozi moves: visual badge + receipt + audience qualifier.

Template 1 · The Roster Receipt

[Walking through Brickell penthouse, GT3 RS visible through window] "I manage 250 creators. Last year my agency moved $[X]M in brand deals. If you're trying to build an agency right now, here's the one thing I'd do differently than everyone else." Chyron: FOUNDER, OVO TALENT

Template 2 · The Brand Stack

[Driver's seat of GT3, sunglasses on] "Last 12 months I've closed Nike, SKIMS, Celsius, and Gatorade for creators on my roster. Most people pitching me on starting an agency haven't closed a single brand. Here's the gap." Chyron: BRAND DEALS CLOSED THIS YEAR

Template 3 · The Operator Stat

[Brickell rooftop, Miami skyline behind] "I've signed 250 creators across 4 years. About 30 of them make me real money. The 30 vs 250 split is the whole game — and almost nobody talks about why." Chyron: 250 CREATORS · 30 PROFITABLE

Template 4 · The Identity + Filter

[Komodo, walking out of dinner with the receipt in frame] "I'm the founder of OVO Talent — we sign creators between 50K and 500K and connect them to brand deals. If you're thinking about doing the same, here's the exact mistake I made the first 6 months." Chyron: FOUNDER, OVO TALENT

Template 5 · The Counterintuitive Receipt

[GT3 RS detail shot, Alex leaning on door] "This car was paid for by one brand campaign. That's the part nobody tells you about creator agencies. The first deal pays for the next 5 years. Here's how that math actually works." Chyron: BRAND DEAL ECONOMICS

The rules

  1. Receipts before reasons. Numbers ALWAYS precede the tip. Don't say "you need to focus on X" — say "after [number] [thing], I've found the only thing that actually moves the needle is X."
  2. 2-4 moves per cold-open. One receipt = thin. Five = bragging. Three is the pocket.
  3. Visual badge from frame 0. GT3, Brickell, Komodo, F1, agency-roster screenshot. The lifestyle anchor IS the receipt; the spoken number stacks on top.
  4. Chyron the role. "FOUNDER, OVO TALENT" or "BRAND DEAL MANAGER · 250 CREATORS" — every talking-head opener should have a lower-third for the first 3-5 seconds. Currently zero of your videos have this. It's the cheapest, highest-leverage move on the list.
  5. Audience qualifier inside the first 10s. "If you want to manage creators" / "If you're thinking about an agency" — filters for high-intent viewers, signals you know exactly who you're talking to.
  6. Transition cleanly. After ~10-15s of receipts, pivot with: "Here's the [mistake / framework / lever / gap] most people miss." Then teach.

What this is NOT

  • Not bragging. Bragging is "look at me." Receipts are "trust me." The difference is whether the next sentence is a flex or a teach.
  • Not a permission slip to lead with lifestyle alone. Lifestyle without a number = the 502k-view post that generated zero leads (per Content Doctrine). You need BOTH — visual receipt AND spoken receipt.
  • Not for every format. Personal vlogs (per personal-vlog-not-whop-bar.md) don't need receipts — long holds + earned emotion is the move there. This playbook is for talking-head business content specifically (YT longform, IG/TT business clips).

How to use it this week

  1. Pick 3 topics from your idea pool.
  2. Write 3 cold-opens using Templates 1-5 as scaffolds, customized for the topic.
  3. Pin the OVO Talent roster screenshot, this month's revenue figure, and the most-recent named brand deal at the top of your script — pull from them every cold-open.
  4. Film. Hand the rough cut to Shaffi with the chyron text + timing baked into the brief.
  5. After 2 weeks of receipt cold-opens, compare lead density against your baseline. If they move, lock the formula into the doctrine permanently.
